Entertainment is a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years especially for the purpose of keeping the audience attention. Speaking on the occasion of INDICOMMS 2021, Joy Mukherjee, Creative Director of Zee Group said. He further mentioned in future, data and text will be the future in the M&E industry.
SMX Networks had organized a two-day Media, Entertainment, and Communication Summit named INDICOMMS 2021 in association with Adamas University (University partner), Innoserv Digital (Digital partner), ORAI Robotics (AI partner), ASMA, and Asentrek Global (community partner). This mega summit continued for two days, 4th-5th March 2021, with many eminent speakers across the globe. This mega event aimed to examine the current scenario and identify new trends and best practices emerging in the media, communication and entertainment industries
Content writing vs OTT platforms
Mukherjee said that content writing is the process of planning, writing and editing web content, typically for digital marketing purposes. It can include writing blog posts and article, scripts for videos and podcasts as well as content for specific platforms, such as tweetstorms on Twitter or text posts on Reddit.
He said, “Content writers write what they seem to write. The content is written and broadcasted according to the want of the customer or which satisfies them. But content writers cannot get a data focus so they cannot get the data and write accordingly without the feedback. But the OTT platform has that data focus where they can know the maximum audience, which video is switching by the maximum audience, how many minutes watching, or not watching. They get a granular understanding of consumer appreciation of the content. Data and text are future areas to be dealt with.”
Although people’s attention is held by different things because individuals have different preferences, most forms of entertainment are recognizable and familiar.
Influence of OTT platform and television during pandemic/lockdown
An OTT platform (over-the-top ) media service is a streaming media service offered directly to viewers via the Internet. OTT bypasses cable, broadcast cable, broadcast, and satellite television platforms, the companies that traditionally act as a controller or distributor of such content.
Mukherjee said, “The comparison of OTT platform with television is the biggest topic to be dealt with during lockdown due to a worldwide pandemic and still continuing. These platforms should keep such content that will satisfy the customers and give entertainment. OTT platform and television both are parallelly watched by the audience during the pandemic. But the consumers can do one comparison that is OTT platform is more of individualism but television is mass communication. Most of the consumers get satisfied by watching television because it gives updates each and every moment. We can conclude that television is more relevant during the pandemic.”
